Careers in Social Justice

Wednesday March 28, 2012

Did you come to law school to help people and effect change? Are you not sure that the large/corporate law firm environment is the right career for you? Then this event is for you! The Career Services Office is pleased to announce that we are hosting a social justice careers event next Thursday, March 29th at 3:30 -5:00 pm in Room 2A. The event is a panel with four lawyers from different social justice/public interest backgrounds talking about their careers and providing advice to students who are thinking of similar career paths. We are very pleased that the following panelists have confirmed their attendance:

  • Nathalie Des Rosiers, Canadian Civil Liberties Association (Toronto)
  • Michel DesNeiges, New Brunswick Environmental Law Society and Environmental Law Clinic (Moncton)
  • LA Henry, sole practitioner and Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic (Fredericton)
  • Tom Mann, NB Union of Public and Private Employees (Fredericton)
Each panelist will speak briefly about his or her experience in social justice and then we will open up the discussion to questions from the floor – so be thinking about what sorts of questions you would like to ask the panelists. There will be a light reception in the Student Lounge following the panel.

As well, in conjunction with the Social Justice Panel, the CSO is partnering with Speaker’s Hour to host Nathalie Des Rosiers over Speaker’s Hour on the 29th. I will circulate the title of Ms. Des Rosiers’ presentation in the next few days, but I wanted to send this email out now so that you can “save the date”. We are very excited about the line up for this year’s event and know that it is going to be interesting and informative. I encourage all students to attend.
